The following are photos of a 20lb 1oz blue trout caught on the 11th May by Dennis Hawes from Suffolk. It was Mr Hawes 2nd visit to Avington. He was fishing the carrier side of lake 2 using a black and green goldhead montana, with a long marabou tail on an floating line and 8lb leader.
He was casting blind with a slow retrieve, when the line got tangled around his feet, as he was untangling the line the fish took the fly. The fish made five strong runs staying very deep and cruising from one side of the lake to the other. As Dennis got the fish closer to the bank he realised his net was not going to be big enough and called for help to an angler near by. It took him 15 minutes to land.
